Adenoma

Adenoma is a benign tumour composed of glands.

The -oma ending implies benign; however, it should be noted that there are several exceptions. Melanomas and sarcomas are malignant!

Types of adenoma

Gastrointestinal pathology

• Serous microcystic adenoma of the pancreas.
• Gastric tubular adenoma.
• Tubular adenoma of the stomach.
• Pyloric gland adenoma.
• Sessile serrated adenoma.
• Hepatic adenoma.
• Tubular adenoma of the gastrointestinal tract (tubular adenoma, tubulovillous adenoma, villous adenoma).

Breast pathology

• Lactating adenoma.
• Nipple adenoma.

Genitourinary pathology

• Metanephric adenoma.
• Papillary adenoma.
• Mesonephric adenoma (nephrogenic adenoma).

Head and neck pathology

• Canalicular adenoma.
• Basal cell adenoma.
• Pleomorphic adenoma.

Other

• Sebaceous adenoma.
• Pituitary adenoma.
